A major shift is coming to Alberta's competitive junior golf scene, directly impacting the province's most promising young players.

The renowned Play Golf Alberta – Royal Mayfair / Masters tournament, held in Edmonton, is expanding from two days to a more demanding three-day competition.

This strategic change also introduces a cut after the second day, adding a new layer of professional pressure for the athletes.

The primary reason for this evolution is to secure eligibility for World Golf Amateur Ranking points.

Earning these points is critical for top junior golfers hoping to attract attention from university scouts and secure valuable collegiate scholarships across North America.

The prestigious event features the top 40 male and 20 female junior golfers, selected based on their performance in provincial championships.

This move is a significant investment in developing elite local talent for the future of the sport.

Gear Reviews

The new Nike Jordan Air Rev has arrived, aiming to meet the tough demands of Alberta's diverse golf courses.

This shoe is built for performance, delivering exceptional comfort straight out of the box that lasts through long rounds from Calgary to Canmore.

Its main innovation is the Flight Lock strap system, which provides a tangible, locked-in feeling for enhanced stability and power during your swing.

The traction is another standout feature, offering a vice-like grip that feels secure on the hilly and often damp fairways common in the Canadian Rockies.

While the performance is impressive, the shoe isn't perfect.

The functional strap can look chunky, and some minor finishing issues and non-replaceable spikes raise questions about long-term durability.

Despite these small flaws, the Jordan Air Rev is a top-tier contender for local golfers who value cutting-edge technology and superior comfort on the course.
